Sustainability Commitment

ERTH recognizes that as a distributor of electricity and a provider of energy products and solutions we must conduct our business in a way that respects the environment.  We also recognize that minimizing our impact on the environment is key to future success and profitability.

At ERTH, respecting the environment means introducing sustainable practices into our workplace thereby minimizing our impact on the environment.   To date, ERTH has implemented a number of sustainable initiatives, some which include:

  • Installing solar panels at one of ERTH’s operating centres (more information found at here)
  • Introducing hybrid vehicles into ERTH’s vehicle fleet
  • Introduction of eBilling and other paperless avenues to customer enrolment and payment
  • Use of electronic document archiving to decrease paper consumption
  • Installation of energy efficient lighting in 75% of company offices, operating centres and warehouses
  • Worked with local electrical contractors for the proper environmental dispose of flurescent ballasts and lamps
  • Introduction of rechargable battery recycling stations

In 2010, ERTH continued formalizing its commitment to sustainability through the introduction of A Greener ERTH Sustainability Program which included the implementation of a short-term sustainability plan for 2010 and the development of a long-term sustainability plan that will be launched in 2011.

The focus of A Greener ERTH is to reduce ERTH’s footprint in the areas of energy consumption, water usage and waste production through the introduction of green practices and policies, the purchase and use of green products and services and committing to sourcing from sustainable suppliers who are also committed to sustainable business practices.

The success of A Greener ERTH is dependent on a commitment from our management and employees to make a positive impact on the environment.  We know that commitment is there, and we will encourage it further through engaging employees at all levels to take part in the greening of ERTH.

Stakeholder engagement regarding our sustainability program is a final and critical element of our sustainability planning, which is why ERTH will be tracking and reporting on our progress in meeting our sustainability plan goals.  Beginning in 2011, our plans and achievements will be reported in an annual sustainability report which will be distributed to our shareholders and made available to the public on our website.
